The betting season on this year's Premier League has hardly begun and already punters are eyeing the first boss to be axed from his position of power.
Roberto Martinez is definitely the unfortunate manager that everyone has their eyes on, after a shocking start to the season.
Martinez's Wigan Athletic team lost 4-0 against Blackpool in their opening day match, before losing to Chelsea at the DW Stadium on Saturday with a stunning 6-0 loss.
As a result of losing two consecutive home matches and conceding 10 goals, Wigan is now slumped at the foot of the Premier League table and fans are looking for blood.
Betting groups immediately picked up the scent and put odds of 3/1 that Martinez will be the first manager to be axed.
However, those odds were changed to 9/4 at some sites soon after punters felt absolutely sure that Martinez would be getting his walking papers.
"The vultures are beginning to circle for Martinez," said David Williams, speaking for Ladbrokes. "He's had a shocking start to the new campaign and is being backed at the expense of anyone else in the League.
It was reported yesterday that Martinez will be holding crisis talks with is chairman, Dave Whelan, following the poor beginning to the Premier League campaign.
Whelan has vowed in the past never to sack his manager during the period of his three year contract, but it remains to be seen whether he will be able to stick to this promise following two such disappointing defeats.
