With the start of the
2010-11 Serie A season just days away, Juventus has secured its final player before kick off, in the form of midfielder
Alberto Aquilani, who left Liverpool FC behind for a year in his home football premier league.
According to reports, Aquilani has passed all of his medical tests with flying colours which means come Saturday, he'll run onto the pitch alongside his Juventus teammates. The medical tests were necessary on account of Aquilani's previous injuries.
Not long after the 26-year-old Aquilani arrived in Turin, Italy on Monday, he underwent a lengthy medical examination. And although everything was reportedly to the medical examiners satisfaction, the player underwent a few more tests yesterday.
While playing for Liverpool last season, Aquilani suffered from a muscle tear to the thigh as well as issues with cartilage in an ankle and knee. Because he's on loan from Liverpool for a year, Juventus want to ensure the midfielder is 100 percent fit.
Assuming Aquilani delivers for Juventus this season in Serie A, it's likely that the Italian club will sign him permanently, and pay Liverpool a hefty €16 million when his contract expires with the top English Premier League club at the end of this season.
Said Aquilani soon after arriving in Italy, 'I am happy to be here. I will meet Del Neri [Juventus manager] tomorrow. He convinced me to come and no other club came looking for me. I have returned to Italy to get a place in the national team again.'
In other Serie A news, 27-year-old Italian striker Allesandro Diamanti has left West Ham United to join Serie A newbies, Brescia. The talented player only played for the English club for a year before deciding that there is no place like home.
