The
2010-11 Serie A season officially kicked off on the weekend, and Italian football fans not lucky enough to watch their teams live were firmly rooted in front of their sets as 19 of the 20 Serie A clubs went to battle.
And fans were particularly interested in how
Inter Milan would fare in its Monday opener against Bologna, considering it won the treble last year in the form of the Coppa Italia, the Serie A title and the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League.
But they were very disappointed if they expected Internazionale to come out 'guns blazing', because after 90 minutes the current Serie A champions marched off the pitch tied 0-0 with Bologna, a club Inter Milan should have trounced.
Perhaps the team was still thinking about its unexpected 2-0 defeat at the hands of Atletico de Madrid in the European Supercup on Friday last week. But whatever the reason, most fans agree that the side is in need of some 'firepower.'
And that means acquiring players before the Serie A transfer window closes, to ensure Inter Milan can regain some of the form that made it the toast of Europe last season. But one of Inter's great rivals, AC Milan, got off to a great start.
In its opener against Lecce on Sunday, AC Milan played like a team possessed and at full time came off the pitch the deserving 4-0 victors. Also smiling was coach Massimiliano Allegri, as it was his first game in charge of the Serie A club.
So with Internazionale struggling to find its feet, and AC Milan already getting stuck in, this should be a hugely exciting Serie A season and one which avid football fans from all over the world will no doubt follow with interest.
