Juniper Research has come out with a report regarding the state of mobile
gambling in the world.
Entitled "Mobile Gambling Markets: Casinos, Lotteries and Betting 2010 -
2015," the report predicts that the scale of wagers on mobile gambling could
exceed $48 billion in less than five years time.
This is due to the increasing number of mobile casinos, lottery and betting
services that are available from around the world.
Two countries have been named in the report for contributing to the success
of the mobile gambling industry until now: Japan and the United Kingdom.
The report shows that Japan Racing Association's iPAT service has been
responsible for the bulk of global mobile gambling transactions.
However, casino and betting services from the United Kingdom account for the
remainder of the transactions currently performed in the mobile gambling world.
The report examines emerging markets, including China, which has adopted a
mobile lottery service recently.
In addition, the United States will also be adopting a similar mobile lottery
service.
It seems that the global trend is a decline in lottery sales in traditional
outlets, and therefore local governments are keen to explore alternative routes
to sell tickets. Mobile gambling services seem the best option at present.
Apple is allowing gambling apps to be sold in the App Store, however the
report shows that the majority of service providers opt for a browser-based
approach.
