Superstitious Online Gambler Turns Down Progressive Slot Win

by Anton Johan

Progressive jackpot win at Jackpot City Casino has been turned down

In one of the strangest stories the industry has come across, an online casino player has turned down the prize he won on a progressive slot game - on grounds of superstition.

The story began after the player, who hails from China, hit the jackpot on the WowPot slot game at Jackpot City online casino.

The Microgaming created WowPot indicated that he had won £4,444 - numbers which have a sinister meaning for those who are superstitious.

According to Chinese numerology, the number four is synonymous with death - so it is easy to understand why the player was reluctant to take a prize that incorporated 4 x fours!

A spokesman for the Microgaming powered Jackpot City online casino said: "This player contacted customer support upset about the winnings amount. He was not keen about missing his winnings but at the same time is very worried about bringing bad luck to himself and his family."

"This is a first for us at Jackpot City where a player has refused to claim their winnings," admitted the spokesman. "We are talking with the player in hopes of working out a different approach which would be sensitive to the player's beliefs and also ensures he does not lose out on his progressive winnings."

Jackpot City online casino is an eCOGRA accredited site that is licensed by the Government of Gibraltar.

The site offers new players a super £500 free over their first two deposits (£200 and £300 respectively).

In addition, Jackpot City casino carries progressive jackpot prizes worth over £3 million on games such as Mega Moolah and Major Millions.

The new Lord of the Rings online slot game can be found at the site and players can earn double loyalty points by playing this game until October 5th.

Homonymous, not synonymous - Sorry to be a linguistics nazi, but "4" is unlucky because it SOUNDS like "death", not because it is synonymous. Sounding like another word makes it a homophone (sun/son, steal/steel, bear/bare), not synonym. 4 is also unlucky in Japanese for the same reason.Homonyms are why we have this joke:Why is 6 afraid of 7?Because seven eight nine (seven ate nine).
