Odds Offered On Chilean Mine Rescue Movie

by Renee Israel

Odds have been offered on a director and lead role of a movie based on the Chilean mine rescue

After one of the most perfectly executed rescue operations in history, it comes as no surprise that Hollywood already has an eye on the story line of the recent Chilean miners' ordeal.

Thirty three men spent 70 days in the bowels of the earth waiting for someone to find them, and after the first signs of life were revealed, Chilean rescue operators went into full mode in a bid to get them out.

Billions of people around the world watched in fascination as the men were pulled out of the collapsed mine one at a time and not even Hollywood could have written a happier ending.

With speculation high that a Hollywood adaptation of the Chilean miners' ordeal being made is only a matter of time, UK bookies have already opened several markets.

The first is 'Who will direct the movie?'

Odds are being offered at 7/2 that it will be Paul Greengrass, followed by James Cameron and Steven Spielberg, both 4/2.

Other names on the list include David Fincher, Clint Eastwood (10/1) and Peter Jackson (14/1).

Another market is 'Who will play the lead role?'

Javier Bardem is a favourite at 4/1, followed by Benicio Del Toro (9/2), Brad Pitt and Nicholas Cage (both 5/1) and Russell Crowe (6/1).

In terms of the film being a Hollywood hit, the odds are as follows:

Miners' Movie to win a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - 6/1

Miners' Movie to win an Oscar for Best Picture - 8/1
