The Denver Broncos played appalling (American) football when they came to London and lost against the 49ers, and so many NFL punters here in the UK will be tempted to go against them when they face the Chargers on Monday Night Football (Tuesday morning for us). But beware that the NFL line for this game has come out very high indeed with the latest
Broncos Chargers spread favouring the home team from San Diego by as many as 10 points.
In the world of NFL betting a spread larger than 7 points is quite rare on any given Sunday or Monday and to lay a touchdown and a field goal usually means that one team is vastly superior to the other. That may not be the case here as the Broncos are 3-6 but hardly facing the best of the best as the Chargers are only 4-5.
San Diego have been bitterly disappointing this season but after losing three games in a row they have come to life of late reeling off back to back wins against the Titans ( a decent team) and the Texans on the road. They have also had the benefit of a bye week so come into this game with plenty of rest and preparation under the belt. They have also tended to play well at home in recent seasons and will be looking to prove a point under the national spotlight.
The Broncos looked done and dusted a week ago after losing four games in a row culminating in their UK debacle, which did little to promote the NFL over here. But then on Sunday they demolished the division leading Chiefs in a sensational effort winning 49-29 after hopping out to a shock 35-0 lead. Could this be the start of their turnaround? It will be difficult for Denver to win here but we wouldn't mind a bit of the Broncos +10 points as a shrewd wager.
Expect a high scoring game so perhaps a look at the Over for total points is also warranted, and be sure to check out the NFL lines for all the Sunday games where there is quite a bit of betting value lurking about this week.
