eCOGRA, the independent player protection group, has welcomed the publication of an online gambler consumer protection agreement, entitled 'Responsible Remote Gambling Measures'.
The workshop agreement was initiated by CEN - the European Committee for Standardisation - a group which draws up voluntary technical specifications for new and existing European markets and industries.
The CEN workshop agreement highlighted nine distinct objectives in order to protect online gamblers.
In addition, it introduced 134 concrete measures in order to meet these objectives.
The policy objectives are as follows:
- The protection of vulnerable customers.
- The prevention of underage gambling.
- Combating fraud.
- Protection of privacy.
- Fair gaming.
- Accurate customer payments.
- Responsible marketing.
- Customer satisfaction.
- Safe operating environment.
"Over the last 7 months, CEN has provided the platform for us to make this agreement to secure the high level of protection for consumers across Europe that is vital for the online gambling industry as it matures," said the Chief Executive Officer of eCOGRA, Andrew Beveridge.
Beveridge also served as the chair for the CEN workshop.
"eCOGRA intends to bring into line its own eGap Requirements with these CWA control measures, thereby benefitting eCOGRA, its sealholders and players," he added.
