On Saturday in Spain, Real Zaragoza CD caused a major upset in the country's premier football league when it hosted and thumped Valencia C.F. (the number three team in the La Liga standings) by a convincing 4-0 to the delight of the home fans.
Real Zaragoza is currently ranked 16 out of the 20 La Liga sides, which means it is at risk of being relegated at the end of the season. However, after the way it dispatched Valencia on the weekend, a team it should have lost to on paper, it has boosted its confidence.
From the outset Real Zaragoza took control of the match, and just four minutes in chalked up their first goal of the match courtesy of midfielder Jiri Jarosik, who took advantage of a well-placed free kick and poor defending from Valencia to head the ball into the net.
At a result of this unexpected goal, Valencia were given a sharp wake up call and proceeded to up their defense. However, despite holding Real Zaragoza off for the next 35 minutes or so - just - Zaragoza midfielder Ander Herrera slotted one in to make it 2-0.
On that occasion, Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche managed to redeem a glaring mistake from earlier when he dispatched a picture perfect pass to the well-placed Herrera, who sent it goalward between the legs of beleaguered Valencia goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita.
If Valencia were hoping to turn things around in the second half, they were disappointed as Real Zaragoza continued their onslaught. The result was that a noticeably frustrated Valencia gave away two penalties, both of which resulted in goals for Real Zaragoza.
Both penalties were taken by midfielder Gabi in the 64th and 74th minute respectively. While Real Zaragoza fans celebrated long into the night, Valencia fans lamented a shocking week, which saw their side knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday.
