Philip Roth, the 78 year old American author, is the favourite to win this year's Man Booker Prize.
Roth has been shortlisted to win the prestigious book prize two times before, in 2005 and 2007.
His 31st book, Nemesis, was published last year, and Roth has won multiple prizes in the past for his works, including America's National Book Award (twice) and a Pulitzer Prize in 1997.
Paddy Power has Roth listed at 7/2 to win this year's Man Booker International Prize.
There are also two Chinese authors in the running this year - Su Tong and Wang Anyi, both with odds of 10/1.
This is the first time that Chinese writers have been shortlisted for the Booker prize.
Professionals believe that their inclusion indicates a shift towards recognition of China's writing among international audiences.
There are 13 contenders in the race from eight different countries.
Previous winners of the Man Booker prize include the Nigeria Chinua Achebe in 2007, the Albanian Ismail Kadar and Alice Munro from Canada.
