With just three games to go before the end of the Italian 2010/11 Serie A season, current leaders AC Milan are just one point shy of being crowned the new Serie A champions, and should have no trouble picking up that point judging by their recent form.
Which is obviously why they are the overwhelming Serie A betting favourites to win the championship, despite the best efforts of fierce rivals and five-time defending Serie A champs Inter Milan, who failed to fire on all cylinders this season like they did last season.
In fact, Inter Milan were virtually unstoppable in the 2009/10 season, proven by the fact they won the prestigious 'treble,' comprising the Coppa Italia Championship, the Serie A Championship and not forgetting the coveted UEFA Champions League Championship.
But as in any sport, team fortunes can change pretty much overnight. And in the case of Inter Milan, the team took their eye off the ball this season, so to speak, opening the way for a hungry, determined and undoubtedly deserving AC Milan to snatch the Serie A title.
According to leading online sports betting site Paddy Power, AC Milan are the 1/500 odds-on favorite to win the 2010/11 Serie A title, while Inter Milan are at 33/1. Now you don't have to hold a Masters Degree in Betting to realise that Inter Milan are on the outs.
So with the 2010/11 Serie A title all but a foregone conclusion, the more relevant and undoubtedly more exciting Serie A betting question is whether second place Inter Milan (69 points) can keep third place Napoli (68 points) at bay to finish in the top four this season?
For our betting buck the answer is yes, but don't take our word for it. According to Paddy Power oddsmakers, Inter Milan are the 1/200 odds-on favourites to finish in the top four, then Napoli at 1/40, Roma at 6/5, Lazio at 5/4, Udinese at 23/10 and Juventus at 15/2.
