Was it a canny ability to predict the outcome of four Scottish Cup games or
simply good luck? For one happy William Hill punter, Rory Lewis, the answer
doesn't really matter as he still netted £101,200.
The player's £100 accumulator bet on the William
Hill Scottish Cup last weekend resulted in a massive payout - the biggest
individual Scottish Cup payout in the history of the top-rated football
competition.
The Scottish punter made a four fold accumulator bet on the Scottish Cup last
week and took home an incredible £101,200 for his efforts.
All four teams chosen by the punter won first round ties by four goals or
more, allowing him to pick up this huge check from the leading UK land and
online sports betting group.
The £100 accumulator bet was placed on the following William Hill Scottish
Cup markets:
- Huntly to beat Newton Steward by four goals or more - 9/2
- Wick Academy to beat Coldstream by four goals or more - 7/1
- Cove Rangers to beat Glasgow University by four goals or more - 4/1
- Culter to beat Burntisland Shipyard by four goals or more - 18/5
The results proved to be better than the punter could've ever imagined. Cove
Rangers beat Glasgow University 4-0, Huntly thrashed Newton Steward 6-1, Culter
triumphed over Burntisland Shipyard 4-0 and Wick Academy's crushed Coldstream
9-1.
William Hill Congratulates Lucky Winner
A spokesman for William Hill, Tony Kenny congratulated the lucky
winner and spoke of his courageous accumulator bet.
"This punter obviously had a crystal ball when making his
selections," he said. "To bet on four teams to win by four goals was a
phenomenal leap of faith and we'd like to wish this shrewd Scotsman all the best
with his new found fortune."
Lewis, who is a financial advisor in training, didn't even
realise that he had won the biggest individual win William Hill has ever paid
out, when his online bet first came in. The reason? BBC bungled two of the four
results.
"I was waiting for the results to come in and I was quite
optimistic. It thought the odds were too long," he recalled. "But the BBC
reported that Cove drew 0-0 and Culter only won 3-0. Then, when I checked later,
both results had turned into 4-0 wins. I was a bit nervous afterwards in case
they changed again! But thankfully they were right this time."
The win couldn't have come at a better time for the budding
financial advisor, who recently experienced a burglary and had expensive
equipment stolen from his flat. It just goes to show how much money can be won
with William Hill football bets.
