One of the most popular destinations for poker players in the UK capital, the
Fox Poker Club, will be passing into new management hands, after it was reported
that the club has been sold to Genting Casinos.
The Malaysian based Genting purchased the Fox Poker Club for an
undisclosed amount, recognising the major potential that this club has in a fast
growing UK poker market.
The Fox Poker Club has over 20,000 members and still turns a healthy profit.
The club is situated in the heart of the West End and has been part of the local
gaming scene since the idea for such a venture was first thought up by Ian Hogg
and Chris North in 2005. The club was named for Charlie Fox, the well known
figure in the UK political and poker landscape.
In 2008, the UK Gambling Commission granted the Fox Poker Club a coveted
operating license, and it finally opened its doors last year after its founders
managed to secure over £1 million in funding.
"It was always a dream of mine to open a poker club in London and although
it's been a real challenge, with delayed openings and not getting our 24 hour
license until July this year, I'm extremely proud of what we've achieved," said
North, who is the MD of the club. "The club is in a great position to continue
growing and we are very pleased that it is passing to such good hands. We wish
the club and Genting all the success in the future."
Genting Casinos Big Name in UK Market
Genting Casinos will add the Fox Poker Club to its fast-growing portfolio of
UK gambling establishments, which now numbers 46. The group's two brands are
Genting Club and Genting Casino, with its flagship Crockfords Casino operating
out of London. Other popular Genting Casinos include the Maxims Casino Club and
the Colony Club.
The new poker acquisition will add a new dimension to Genting Casino's
offerings.
"We always knew there was a market for a poker club in the heart of London
and it's been a wonderful project to have been involved in," said the chairman
of the club, Ian Hogg. "I'm immensely satisfied to see the Fox Poker Club
develop into one of London's best venues and I'll be back to play games on a
regular basis."
