The Carling Cup Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace Quarter Final will be
played tonight (Wednesday, November 30) at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The big match, which will kick-off at 19:45 GMT, can be watched live on Sky
Sports or listened on BBC Radio 5 or BBC local radio. The text commentary will
be made available on the website of BBC Sports.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the boss of Manchester United, said that young players
Federic Macheda, Zeki Fryers, Paul Pogba, and Ravel Morrison will play. The team
hopes that Chris Smalling will recover from an injury and will be fit enough to
play.
The Crystal Palace team includes Darren Ambrose while players Lee Hills, Alex
Marrow, and Jonathan Williams are out.
Manchester United Had Previous Stronger Performances
Thanks to the splendid performance of Lee Martin in the 1990 FA Cup Final,
Sir Alex Ferguson picked up the first of the 37 trophies won during his 25 years
at Old Trafford. Four of these trophies are Carling Cup trophies.
The Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freeman is optimistic, however, and quite
sure that his talented players can give Manchester United a licking.
This is the sixth time Manchester United will face Crystal Palace, and while
the Red Devils have won all five of their previous matches, Crystal Palace
haven't chalked up a victory against United since 1989.
On the other hand, Manchester United has won the League Cup four times in
1992, 1999, 2009, and 2010. The only championship club that knocked off the team
was Coventry, which won 2-1 at Old Trafford in September 2007.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are not devoid of talented players. Although they
have won only once during their last six League Cup matches, this season is the
team's most successful in nine seasons.
