In the first week of December, as the first snow and sleet hit the UK,
bookmakers started cutting their odds for many parts of the country to
experience a white Christmas.
Now, with many parts of the country under blankets of snow, bookmakers have
slashed their odds even further that we'll see a White Christmas on December
25th.
According the UK sports betting and gambling group, Ladbrokes, Geordies have
the best chance among the population to see snow on Christmas day, with White
Christmas odds slashed to just 5/2.
However, Londoners seem to be out of luck if it were up to the bookmakers,
with odds of just 9/2.
Arctic weather continues to sweep across Britain, and forecasters warn that
there are more freezing temperatures ahead of us as the month advances, which
explains the move by many UK bookies to slash their Christmas snow odds.
Due to the dramatic weather, there has been a surge in the number of players
who are accessing online betting sites to bet on the snow.
Newcastle carries odds of 5-2 that it will be wearing white on Christmas Day,
followed by Glasgow, Manchester and Leeds at 3-1. This could be Manchester's
third white Christmas in a row.
The Met Office announced yesterday: "Snow, heavy rain and strong winds are
expected to affect all parts of the UK over the next day or so, bringing
hazardous conditions at times. We are working closely with the government
agencies to keep them up to date with the latest information. We advise the
public to regularly check our latest forecasts and warnings."
Many Britons are already considering alternative travel plans for the
Christmas weekend in case airports and train stations are snowed in. The wet
weather also means that roads could become so icy that some may be closed.

globe on December 25th, 2011.
