Robin Dahlberg, Anthony Lilley OBE, Walter Merricks CBE, and Dr. Graham Sharp
have been appointed as the new commissioners of the UK Gambling Commission
through a contract that commences on Jan 1, 2012.
While Dahlberg and Merricks have been appointed for 5 years and Sharp and Lilley
have been appointed for 4 years.
The New Commissioners of the UK Gambling Commission
Walter Merricks has been the chairman of the Health Professions Adjudicator
Office since 2009. He is also the legal ombudsman's service complaint
adjudicator and the member of the board of directors of the Ombudsman Services
Ltd from 2010.
When he was a lecturer of legal journalism and law, he was the Law Society's
assistant secretary general from 1985 to 1996. He was also the member of the
board of Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority from 2002 to 2008 and has
also served as its interim chairman. The CBE award was conferred on Merricks in
recognition of his achievements in the industry of financial services.
Graham Sharp was trained as a chartered accountant by Thomson McIintock of
Glasgow. Widely experienced in the private sector owing to senior positions held
in the financial services industry, he is the member of the Scottish Accounts
Commission. Sharp has also been on the board of Samuel Montagu, a prominent
merchant bank, and was the founder director of Minerva, a company dealing with
property investments.
Robin Dahlberg currently has two public appointments, which will conclude on
March 31, 2013. He is the member of the board for the Health and Safety
Executive and the Security Industry Authority vice chairman. This year, Dahlberg
was appointed as the chairman of the Orbit Heart of England Housing Association
and as a non executive member of the board for Orbit Group Limited.
Dahlberg is now a trustee of the Citizens Advice Pension and Assurance Plan
and the treasurer for Jubilee Gardens Trust. Previously, he was the vice
chairman of the Waterloo Community Development Group.
Anthony Lilley has been the chief executive officer and the chief creative
officer of Magic Lantern Productions Ltd. since 1999, a visiting professor of
Bournemouth University since 2009, and a director of Zespa Media Limited from
2010. Besides serving as an advisor to Arts Council England and NESTA, he is the
member of OFCOM Content Board and the British Screen Advisory Council and the
trustee for English National Opera and the chairman of Lighthouse. The OBE award
was conferred on him in 2008.
