Signs that Manchester City might just be starting to feel the pinch and I
want to take them on against Sunderland.
The title favourites since demolishing Manchester United 6-1 in October, City
have slowly seen their lead at the top reduced and all of a sudden they are
looking up at their great rivals.
Roberto Mancini's side found it extremely difficult to break down a stubborn
West Brom side on Boxing Day, dropping two points as a result of a goalless
draw, and it could well be more of the same against the Black Cats.
Having swept all before them in the opening weeks of the season, City have
taken just seven points from their previous four matches and the mini wobble
began with defeat at Chelsea.
While the Citizens started very brightly at Stamford Bridge, they barely saw
the ball for the final hour and it was the Blues that were well on top at the
finish.
Likewise, Arsenal enjoyed a terrific amount of possession at the Etihad
Stadium, leaving unlucky 1-0 losers, and City are certainly not at their
brilliant best at present after Champions League elimination.
Less than half way through the season, it is far too early to be casting any
serious doubts about City's title credentials but the Red Devils have really
turned up the heat in recent weeks and a rejuvenated Sunderland could well cause
the visitors problems on New Years Day.
Since Martin O'Neill's appointment as manager a new wave of optimism has
swept the Stadium of Light and the home fans will relish taking on one of the
big boys.
Sunderland were unfortunate not to make it three wins in four top flight
matches when held at home 1-1 by Everton on Boxing Day and they should be aiming
to pull away from the drop zone in the coming weeks.
There are plenty of short price teams in the Premier League over the next few
days and at just 8/15 I am happy to take on Manchester City.
There are enough reasons to be opposing them at that price and Sunderland are
sure to have their backs at the 6/1 offered by the likes of
Blue
Square and
Paddy Power.
