With less than 200 days to go before the start of the 2012 Olympic Games in
London and growing excitement reverberating around the country, the UK Lottery
is gearing up to make its sizable contribution.
The reason is that the UK National Lottery will play an integral part in
the London Olympics by contributing some £2.2 billion to help fund the
games, £750 million of which from specially designated lottery games.
The Good Causes money which is raised from the sale of these special games
will go towards London 2012.
Lottery players will not only be putting themselves in line to win millions
of pounds, but will also know that they are making a worthy contribution to one
of the greatest sporting events the United Kingdom has ever seen.
The UK National Lottery will be helping towards the funding of five major new
sports facilities, including the Olympic Stadium, VeloPark, the Aquatics Centre,
the Handball Arena and the Hockey Centre.
National Lottery money has also be set aside for UK athletes to help prepare
them for the games. Over the years, Lottery Good Causes money has helped UK
athletes win more than 430 Olympic and Paralympic Games medals.
Today, over 1,200 athletes are supported by the UK National Lottery.
Britain's first Olympic sailor, Ben Ainsley, for example, has been backed by the
Lottery for twelve years and has enjoyed a remarkable career thus far. He is
determined to win his fourth gold in London 2012 and his feats would not have
been possible without Lotto funding.
