During the first month of IPL 2012 some of the franchises
have been missing top Australian cricketers who have been with their national
team on the tour to the West Indies. But now that the tour is over, many Aussie
players contracted to the IPL teams will be heading to India.
The Australian player who has been missed most is Shane Watson, who plays for
the Rajasthan Royals. Watson shot into cricketing fame during the first edition
of the IPL when he blossomed as an all rounder. Now he has a permanent place in
the Australian team.
Though Rajasthan Royals won the first IPL, they have failed to make the cut
since then. In IPL 2012, their performance has been sketchy, but they are still
in contention. However, they are woefully short in the bowling department and
will be depending on Watson to handle the death overs.
The Hennai Super Kings are the winners of the last two editions of the IPL
and were the overwhelming favourites before the start of IPL 2012. But a month
down the line and they are floundering in the middle of the table. Though they
are not short of star power, they are missing Australia's Michael Hussey, a.k.a.
Mr Dependable. Michael Hussey can hold the batting together if wickets fall
early and can hit the big shots at the end.
David Warner is another Australian cricketer who is a star in the IPL. In IPL
2011 he played some scorching knocks for the Delhi Daredevils, though he could
not take his team all the way. This year the Delhi Daredevils are comfortably
poised at the top of the table. But with the competition heating up and other
teams being reinforced, the Delhi franchisee will be glad to welcome Warner.
