Adele, the 24 year old singer who has won multiple Grammy awards, announced
in June that she is pregnant with her first child.
Since then, her fans have been speculating about the sex of the baby, which
is due in a couple of months, as well as what Adele and her boyfriend Simon
Konecki intend calling the child.
Bookmakers, always keen to offer novelty bets on trendy topics, have opened a
market on Adele's child, allowing punters to bet on Adele's baby's name.
The singer revealed the news to her fans in late June, saying: "I'm delighted
to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted
you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we're over the moon and very
excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always,
Adele xx".
Soon after her Grammy sweep in February, Adele told US Vogue that she
intended taking time off to concentrate on her relationships, "get married, have
some kids, plant a nice vegetable patch."
It seems that she will manage to do all this much sooner than expected!
Penny is Favourite for Adele Baby Name
At present, Paddy Power, the Irish sports betting giant, has listed the name
Penny as the favourite for Adele's new baby, with odds of 12/1.
Penny Adkins is the name of Adele's mother, someone who has been an
inspiration in her daughter's life since she was born, and who brought her up
almost entirely on her own since Adele's father left them when she was just 3.
Adele has always credited her mother for her positive influence in her life
and her cover of The Cure's Lovesong is dedicated to Penny. A tattoo on Penny's
left wrist is in the shape of a penny as a reference to her mother's name.
