Young Northern Irish golfing hot shot Rory McIlroy currently heads up the
2012 Race to Dubai leader board, with accumulated prize money amounting to €2.8
million from just 11 tournaments.
The Race to Dubai is the culmination of the PGA European
Tour, where the top 60 players on the Race to Dubai leader board at the end of
the penultimate tournament get to compete in the prestigious golf DP World Tour
Championship in Dubai, UAE.
McIlroy Leads Rose, Oosthuizen and Els
McIlroy is followed on the Race to Dubai leader board by Justin Rose of
England and South Africans Louis Oosthuizen and Ernie Els. 2011 Race to Dubai
winner Luke Donald is currently in the eighth spot, ahead of 2009 Race to Dubai
winner Lee Westwood is in the ninth spot, both from England.
After winning the US PGA Championship, McIlroy revealed that his target now
was to maintain the lead till the very end in the Race to Dubai. In 2011 McIlroy
was in the second place but over a million euros behind Donald.
"There are so many benefits to winning the US PGA Championship and going to
the top of The Race to Dubai is definitely one of them," said McIlroy. The other
is going back to Number One on the Official World Golf Ranking.
Winning the Race to Dubai and the Harry Vardon Trophy is something that every
golfer wants to have on their CV at the end of their careers according to
McIlroy. It is the ultimate sign of consistency and performance over the course
of a full year.
However, McIlroy realizes that there is plenty of golf left in the season.
The race will get really hot after the Ryder Cup at the end of September.
