The 2012 US Open tennis championship gets underway from
August 27. It is the last of the grand slam events in the tennis calendar and
this generates additional interest.
Tennis fans were given disappointing news just before the US Open, when
Rafael Nadal withdrew citing injury. Nadal had not participated in the Olympics
as well.
The statement from Nadal said, "I am very sad to announce that I am still not
ready to play and have to withdraw from this year's US Open in NYC. I want to
say hi and thanks to all the fans, in particular to the New Yorkers. I'll miss
you all this year at the Open!"
Men's Singles At US Open Tennis
The seeding and the draw of the Men's Singles have been announced. The US
Open authorities have followed the ATP rankings, pushing the players one spot up
to fill Nadal's vacancy.
Hence, Roger Federer is the top seed in 2012 US Open, Djokovic the second
seed. Andy Murray is the third seed, taking Nadal's place. This means that
Murray will play Federer in the semi finals if they do not get knocked out
before.
The handicappers at the online betting site Bet365 do not agree with the
seeding. The odds that they have posted for the outright winner of the men's
singles at the US Open tennis championship indicate a different order.
Djokovic is the favourite with odds of 11/8. Federer is in second place with
odds of 5/2. Murray, fresh from his Wimbledon gold medal, retains his third
place with odds of 10/3.
Seventh seed Juan Martin Del Potro is fourth at Bet365 online with odds of
10/1. Del Potro will be playing David Nalbandian in the first round and that is
a match to look out for.
Women's Singles At US Open Tennis
The women's seeding at the US Open tennis championship exactly follows the
WTA rankings, at least as far as the top ten are concerned. In terms of the
women's singles, Serena Williams is the US Open 2012 favourite, while the top
five seeds in descending order are Azarenka, Radwanska, Sharapova, Serena
Williams and Kvitova.
There is even less agreement with this order from the handicappers of Bet365
online.
Serena Williams is the hot favourite with even money odds. Serena has just
won the Wimbledon and the Olympics women's singles titles and the handicappers
have factored this in. Besides this, the US Open is her home turf. Last year she
lost in the finals here and will be eager to make amends.
The other top odds at Bet365 online are as follows.
Sharapova 6/1
Azarenka 13/2
Kvitova 9/1
Na Li 10/1
