The 2012 BMW Championship started yesterday (Wednesday,
September 6) at the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel in Indiana, and the early
betting favourite is young Northern Irishman, Rory McIlroy.
The BMW Championship Golf Tournament will run till September 9. The 2012 BMW
Championship offers a purse of $8 million out of which the winner's share will
be $1.44 million.
This prestigious golfing event is the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. 70
pros will be in the starting field and the top 30 will advance to The Tour
Championship. The first two legs of the FedEx Cup Playoffs were The Barclays and
Deutsche Bank Championship.
Rory McIlroy At 2012 BMW Championship
Going into the 2012 BMW Championship, McIlroy heads the FedEx Cup leader
board. He moved to the top of the table after winning the Deutsche Bank
Championship by one shot over Louis Oosthuizen. Nick Watney is in second place
followed by Tiger Woods in third place.
These three will be playing together in the first two rounds at Crooked
Stick. This is the second time in three weeks that McIlroy and Woods will be in
the same three-ball.
McIlroy has put the celebrations on hold. He said, "After I won the US PGA I
told myself that there's a time and a place to enjoy what I've done and going
into the play-offs isn't it." Right now the golfing events are following in
quick succession till the Ryder Cup. There is only time to think about the next
event. "There'll be plenty of time to celebrate later," added McIlroy.
Before the BMW Championship McIlroy told reporters that he had learned how to
handle winning big events and not dwelling on what has happened. "It's just
about moving forward, trying to win another golf tournament, trying to put
myself in position." McIlroy is now the favourite to scoop the FedEx jackpot.
