Key England Players For India Test Series
When India toured England last summer it was pretty much annihilated, which
is why the Indian media is billing this as a revenge series. However, whether
the Indian team measures up to this or not, only time will tell. Meanwhile the
English team has been steadily getting its act in order. The biggest positive
for England is the settlement reached with Kevin Pietersen.
Pietersen is one batsman who can take the attack to the Indian spinners and
his will be the prized wicket for the Indian team. Because three warm up matches
have been scheduled before the first Test, Pietersen will have spent sufficient
time in the England dressing room for old scars to heal.
The only undecided position in the batting order is that of the opener to
accompany captain Alistair Cook. It has been decided that Jonathan Trott will
bat down the order. Therefore the opening slot is up for cutthroat competition
between Nick Compton and Joe Root. Compton fared badly in the first warm up
game, but Root performed only marginally better in the second one. The third
warm up game is underway and a decision will be taken only after that.
Many Indian players have given the call for the preparation of turning
wickets. Graeme Swann will spearhead the England spin attack. He had a memorable
debut in India four years ago. Unfortunately he has had to return home since his
daughter is unwell and is expected to return before the first Test match. Sumit
Patel performed magnificently with the bat in the opening warm up game and has
staked his claim as the second spinner in the England playing eleven.
