West Indies Cricket Betting Preview

The glory days of West Indian cricket are now 30 years past, and one cannot help but feel that the sport is that much the poorer for the loss. West Indies bowlers struck terror into their opponents' hearts, while their batsmen played with a glorious ease that became known as "Calypso cricket". Of late that may well be renamed Collapse-o cricket since they seem unable to beat anyone of note.

These days good results for the West Indies come against cricketing minnows and when they face the big boys they tend to get trounced. They have one world class player in Chris Gayle and he could easily post back-to-back hundreds of two golden ducks, depending on his mood. To call him a capricious talent is an understatement, but he is a talent. Beyond him they have some grinders and a few tweakers of the ball to keep things tight, but they lack the necessary stars to go far.

Their biggest problem will be the pitches, and in a tournament where great fielding and discipline are prerequisites the West Indies will almost certainly let themselves down. Anyone foolhardy enough to wager on this team to win the World Cup will be disappointed as well, although they might surprise a few of the genuine contenders along the way.
