Dating back to 1995, which marked the inception of
Europe's most popular club rugby union competition, the quest to win
the Heineken Cup has sparked tremendous betting interest from rugby
punters across the UK, Europe and beyond.
The fact that the 24 participating clubs are selected from across
all of the Six Nations countries - England, France, Ireland, Italy,
Scotland and Wales - makes for a fascinating contest and ensures
that rugby fans throughout Europe regularly tune in to watch the
games.
French club Toulouse has won the Heineken Cup three times in the
past eight years, and with four wins overall, is the most successful
side in the tournament's history, with Munster, London Wasps, and
Leicester tied with two Heineken Cup victories each.
French, English and Irish Clubs lead the Way
In fact, French, English and Irish clubs have dominated the Heineken
Cup providing all the competition winners, with Irish club Leinster
the defending champions.
There are plenty of Heineken Cup rugby betting markets to choose
from at all the leading sports betting websites. Obviously the most
popular market is to pick the ultimate winner, but punters can also
bet on every game in all six Pool groups as well as which clubs will
top their respective groups.
The Heineken Cup tournament features the best of professional rugby
in Europe, and can reasonably be compared to the UEFA Champions
League in football. For those clubs that fail to secure one of the
24 spots there is the European Challenge Up, which usually features
some big name clubs that fail to win a place in the top tier
competition. The Challenge Cup, which also attracts a lot of betting
interest, is like the UEFA Europa League.
